Synopsis:
The NIDRA (Neural Interfacing Dynamic Rumination Array) Implant is only second to the Mass Relay Gate in importance. Not surprisingly, the commercial version of this implant is one of the myriad accomplishments of the Aglidica Innovations Corporation (AIC). Although neural implants have always been developed by pharmaceutical companies for wealthier patrons, AIC (with their numerous resources) streamlined the development process and made implants available for all. Eventually, these implants were considered at least as necessary as cellphones in the 21st century. These miracle devices unlock a number of unprecedented abilities in the human brain.

Dimensions (Approximate):
Length: Between 2 and 2 1/2 Inches
Width: Between 3/4 and 1 inch
Thickness: About a quarter of an inch

Statistics> Pre-Implant Surgery:
All those who wish to use a NIDRA implant must undergo a quick outpatient surgery. This surgery creates a permanent implant socket at the base of the user's skull, where the NIDRA can be inserted. It is typical before surgery to have a NIDRA already purchased, so that it is ready for use immediately afterward. However, if this is not possible, a dummy implant is inserted instead to maintain neural activity. Either way, it is mandatory to have the socket occupied by some kind of implant at all times, or the user risks suffering brain damage from synapse "short circuiting." Depending on the type of socket the user has installed, he can go 15-45 minutes without an implant without suffering brain damage.

Statistics> NIDRA Installation:
The first installation of a NIDRA implant is not as exciting as one might think. Upon inserting the NIDRA implant, it executes a universally-compatible "knock-out" program in the user, so that the software can install without issues caused by stray brain signals. After about 2 minutes at the longest, the user is woken up and greeted with a usage tutorial. This tutorial, like all the other visual elements of the implant's operating system, is an optical illusion created by the implant itself. This provides the user with a user interface at all times, even without the use of a terminal. Only those with implants can see the user interfaces of others, but only if the user allows it.

Statistics> Features:
The NIDRA implant offers a whole new dimension of brain usage through a large number of features. These are just a few of many.

-Reflex increase: The NIDRA is capable of increasing both mental and physical reflex time by a significant amount.
-Memory Recall and Playback: During the initial installation, the user's memories are organized into a filesystem like one found on a terminal. Thanks to this feature, people are able to read previous thoughts as if they just happened, and watch memories as though they were occurring in front of them.
-Emotional Dampening/Heightening: This is a coveted feature in NIDRA implants. With this feature, users are able to change the impact of the emotion they are feeling according to their whim. This is used in great effect to soften the blow of a family death, or to increase the pleasure of sex, and much more.
-Constant GalacticNet Connection: With a NIDRA implant, the user has access to the GalacticNet whenever he pleases.
-I2I Communication: Implant-to-Implant (or I2I) communication is the ability for two implant users to share memories, thoughts, and ideas without speech or even close proximity.
-(Industrial Option) Mass-Manipulation: Mass-Manipulation is a staple in much of the world's technology. With the help of an industrial grade implant and Mass-Manipulation Nodules installed in the fingertips, a person can bend the power of matter to their will (on a local scale). This implant is typically used for soldiers and engineers, although civilians with a license and enough money can own one as well.

Statistics> Overclocking:
Just like a person can overclock the CPU or GPU of a terminal, an implant user can do the same with his implant. By doing this, they can increase the potential of their implant. For example, reflex increases can be boosted slightly, mass manipulation fields are strengthened, emotions can be heightened or dampened even more, etc. While AIC claims not to condone overclocking they seem to include more fine-tuning options with the release of every implant series.

Statistics> Complications:
While implants are largely considered miracle devices, there is logically some risk in modifying the human brain. Most of the errors were stamped out in beta testing, however some complications do rarely occur.

-Knockout/Reboot Lock: Colloquially known as a brain fart, this error is usually a result of corrupt installation software, an incorrectly inserted implant, or a damaged implant. It causes the implant to send the "knockout" signal almost immediately after rebooting, trapping the user in a cycle of waking up and passing out. This is easily remedied by having the implant removed and reinserting it, or a different one if the first is damaged. There is usually no lasting damage, and the most hassle comes from waiting for someone to happen upon your twitching body. However, it still tends to be a little traumatizing the first time.
-Wetware Crash: Wetware (brain and nervous system) resets are a common part of implant maintenance, and are usually known about in advance. However, sometimes corrupt software can cause a spontaneous reset, causing the user to pass out instantly, regardless of what he was doing. Most of the threat in this complication come from the consequences of losing motor functions in various situations. Deaths that arise from this complication usually occur as a result of the user falling and hitting their head on a hard object.
-Implant Induced Wetware Damage: This is the most dreaded of all implant complications. The NIDRA implant is a powerful device that runs in tandem with the brain. Each model is rigorously tested and manufactured to run well beneath a level of stress while still providing satisfactory performance. However, when overclocking can be the difference between success and failure, it's not hard to see why the capacity to do so is tempting. In moderation, overclocking produces an increased, but manageable amount of heat in the brain. Most overclockers get away with a feverish feeling and a little nausea. However, a damaged implant can cause temperatures to skyrocket in a second. Cautionary commercials and adverts have made implant users well acquainted with the end result of over-overclocking. The user's eyes glaze over, the expression on their face at the time of implant destruction is frozen, and sometimes blood pours from the ear or nose. All muscles are locked in place by the implants residual signals. The end result is a lifeless statue. This eerie death is morbidly known as brain freeze. This complication alone is the main reason some choose not to get implants.

I love writing about this kind of stuff.

If there's something you wanna know about this implant and you don't see it here, leave a comment and I'll add it in.

EDIT: Hmm. Aglidica Innovations Corporation =/= AIG.

I need to stop making art at 2 in the morning.

EDIT 2: Fix'd
